To the Editor:
This is a plea, now that local and primary elections have been held, for all candidates for office in the November elections to put away their campaign signs for the summer. After a while, especially after the signs multiply as the voting day nears, these signs become obnoxious.
Yes, I know candidates have the right of free speech, which includes displaying campaign signs. This is not about rights, however. It is about being considerate of one’s neighbors and constituents.
Even if we like a candidate, who wants to look at campaign signs in the summer in Maine. Please let us enjoy the countryside without these visual intrusions.
On September 2, the day after Labor Day, put out all the signs you want.
Thank you.
