To the editor:
Rite Aid Pharmacy is sponsoring a silent auction for the Miracle Children’s Network Hospitals. Our fundraiser supports The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland. One hundred percent of the donations received will go directly to the only children’s hospital in Maine.
As a volunteer for this fundraiser, I have my own reasons to support this very worthy cause. My youngest daughter had a virus when she was 20 months old that was killing babies. She needed to be hospitalized to receive IV fluids for three days.
I sat in a rocking chair for many hours holding her close to me when she was ill. That rocking chair had been donated to the hospital and I have never forgotten the generosity of that anonymous donor.
My baby survived and grew up to be an atmospheric scientist. Sarah now works in Boston at Fox News as a meteorologist and environmental reporter.
Our children’s hospital has had over 98,000 children’s admissions a year from all over this great state of Maine. The needs for improvements are great and we do want to keep Maine children who are critically ill here at home and not have to send them to Boston for care.
Please come to our silent auction on Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The auction will be held at the American Legion post on Main Street in Damariscotta. We will have auction items from all over our Midcoast region. We have received gift certificates from $10-$70 and our auction items range from $25 gift baskets to many items ranging up to $300.
I want to thank all businesses and individuals for their generous donations and all who bid on the auction items. I thank you and the children and their families thank you too.
