To the Editor:
Thanks to The Lincoln County News for sending a reporter to take pictures and create a story centered around Riverside Park.
It is remarkable the Johanssons and others have dedicated so many years to maintaining this small sliver of nature in the middle of downtown Damariscotta.
Although the article alluded to it, special thanks should go to Alan Baldwin, whose ceramic “ashtrays” provide a receptacle for the many cigarette butts that litter the ground. He has donated these having created them at space provided by Camp Kiev. When they are broken or found missing, he replaces them. If only all the area smokers would use them faithfully.
Next time you are in his store, Artsake, please remember to thank him. He is part of the dedicated crew that has removed thousands of cigarette butts from the area.
According to him, Mondays are particularly bad. Although he hastens to add that things have improved since the time when he had to dispose of a loaded diaper! Thanks to all.
