To the Editor:
On Friday, Dec. 12, I hired a person for some last minute work to ready my home for the holidays. I had to leave before the job was complete but could see the project was being done with care and attention to detail. I paid with a check and expressed my heartfelt appreciation.
Some hours later I returned home to find my check in the door with a note saying “Merry Christmas.”
I called to protest this extraordinary act of generosity but the person declined my offer to mail the check and, with no address, that was that. It would not surprise me to find that this individual is generous of spirit throughout the year, truly something to celebrate.
