To the Editor:
The children’s summer reading program at the Wiscasset Public Library came to an end on Aug. 6 with a pizza party held on the lawn outside the Children’s Room. Over 60 children and adults attended the party.
Eighty children participated in the six-week summer reading program by reading books and attending programs. Thanks to the generosity and support of many individuals and businesses, the library was able to give the children and their families some wonderful programs and rewards.
The Wiscasset Garden Club helped the children decorate flower pots and then planted flowers in them; storyteller and musician Jennifer Armstrong performed; Chewonki Foundation presented their “Mammals of Maine” program; magician The Amazing Lou entertained; and author Ann Hassett read some of her books to the audience. All the programs were wonderful and very well attended.
Also, the success of the program would not have been possible without the help from Sandra, Pamela, Karen, Gwen and the parents.
A big thank you to all of you.
Jean Shippee, Wiscasset Children’s Librarian
