To the Editor:
Wiscasset voters should go to the polls on Dec. 7 (or obtain an absentee ballot from town clerk Chris Wolfe ahead of time) to support the town planning budget. In this flagging economy, we must make thoughtful choices about how to reduce the municipal budget. We should not give up planning. Wiscasset needs-and deserves–smart, forward-thinking, well-organized planning.
With this vote, citizens will have the chance to support a reduced planning budget, saving town dollars while preserving the essential benefits the town planner provides, such as working with the planning board, assisting new businesses, drafting ordinances, and staying abreast of state and federal rules.
Volunteers would not be able to take on the many tasks that the town planner shoulders for Wiscasset.
Please don’t ignore this important vote. How the town grows will affect all of us-even you. Vote “Yes” for the planning budget on Dec. 7.
