To the Editor:
Volunteers are the essence, lifeblood and a living gift to non-profit organizations throughout Lincoln County. Without the time, talents and helping hands of our area’s volunteers, their sense of caring and dedication to community service, much of the vital work that area not-for-profit organizations such as Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center do, would not be possible. In the case of our organization much needed services and programs designed to meet the needs of the county’s aging population would be left by the way side.
Another gift to the community comes from area businesses and retirement communities that support the work of other organizations volunteers by providing the venues and resources that are essential to a non-profit organization’s ability to recognize the work of their volunteers in very special ways.
As a new volunteer year begins the staff at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center would like to thank and applaud Steve Peters and the Eldercare Team at Miles Healthcare for sponsoring and hosting the Center’s annual volunteer recognition luncheon. For the last 10 years this elegant April luncheon has taken place at Schooner Cove during National Volunteer Recognition Week.
During the 2008 holiday season, Corrinna Zaccadelli, former Consumer Information Specialist for the Center and now the co-owner of Zecchino’s in Damariscotta returned to the Center for our Third Annual Omelets by Design Brunch, A Special Holiday Thank You for the Center’s volunteers. Not only did Corrinna make over 30 unique omelets to order she also brought fresh muffins from Zecchino’s ovens.
Both events bring a sense of appreciation and smiles to the faces of the Center’s volunteers. Without the generosity of individuals like Steve and Corrinna and organizations like the Miles Healthcare, Schooner Cove and Zecchino’s these volunteer recognition events would not be possible.
Kudos and thank you for your support and recognition of all that Lincoln County’s and the Center’s volunteers do to create a sense of place and community and to make a difference in the lives of each person whose life they touch throughout the year.
