To the Editor:
I would like to take a minute to thank all those who supported me for the Ethel N. Kelly award, given out each year by the Maine Municipal Assn., to a person or persons of long standing in municipal government, for 20 years or more.
The phone calls, emails and cards of support, as well as those of you who came into the town office to congratulate me, were overwhelming. I thank each and every one of you.
The write up in The Lincoln County News was special. My special thanks go to all of my past and present Selectmen who wrote letters on my behalf.
While 29 years as your Town Clerk, Treasurer and Tax Collector seems like a long time, I’m just a pup compared to the lovely lady who won the award.
Marie Zarian from Phippsburg has served her community for over 60 years while running the Sebago Wharf with her husband for over 40 years. I should also mention that they raised seven children during this time period.
I was lucky enough to be able to read her nomination and meet her at the convention. While she was the one being honored, it looks like her entire family is devoted to the community of Phippsburg as well. Her husband, four daughters and one daughter in law are currently serving on boards for the town.
Congratulations Marie. You are well deserving of the Ethel. N. Kelly award.
