To the Editor:
As a follow-up to letters that appeared in The Lincoln County News two months ago, I would like to report that a great dialogue has taken place concerning the floatplane issues mentioned in those letters.
Thanks to the efforts of Charlie Pernice and Steve Williams in particular, the floatplane community has listened to, and is addressing, the major concerns. I am certain the situation will be much improved next season on Damariscotta Lake.
In addition, I would like to offer a special thank you to Charlie Pernice for taking the time to meet with me and offering to take me up in his floatplane to demonstrate the visibility a pilot has during takeoff and landing. I took the flight and now certainly have a much better appreciation for what one sees from that vantage point.
Since the plane is several feet above the water surface, the pilot has much greater visibility of possible approaching hazards than boat captains do.
The desire of floatplane owners to take neighbors’ concerns seriously, as demonstrated by Charlie Pernice, is commendable.
