It’s no secret that in the eight years since it was founded, the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta has grown as fast as one of those giant Atlantic monsters that serve as the festival’s centerpiece.
What was once just a couple guys trying to out-grow each other became a giddy excuse for a block party; became a big block party, and has now matured into some kind of local cultural monster.
We know the team behind the festival had been working and planning and aiming all year toward this past weekend, but we are not sure anyone was quite prepared for the booming success that was.
For three days straight, the Twin Villages downtown area was jam-packed with visitors and vacationers and the locally curious. It was a roaring success and we tip our hats to all concerned.
As we have often said in this space, contrary to popular opinion, Maine in general and Lincoln County in particular does not shut down after Labor Day. This past weekend was proof of that.
