To the Editor:
“Change We Need.” That phrase, which my son stenciled on the Obama/Biden sign we’ve put on our lawn, is the reason I’m voting for Obama. After eight years of the Bush administration, it’s time for real change in Washington. I want a president who supports tax relief for working families and small businesses, who will work for energy independence, and who believes every American has the right to affordable health care.
A number of prominent Republicans, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell, have crossed party lines to support Barack Obama. Here in Maine Obama has received the endorsement of the Bangor Daily News and the Brunswick Times Record, which noted that “McCain served our parents well. Obama will serve our children better.”
At the local level, I’m also voting for change by supporting Peter Drum for state legislature. Peter is an intelligent, thoughtful, well-informed candidate with exciting ideas about developing a new economy in Maine based on renewable energy and green innovation.
If you haven’t yet made up your mind about this year’s election, I urge you to find out more about the candidates and their beliefs and principles. Remember that you can register to vote up to and including Election Day. Please vote, and please consider joining me in voting for change.
