To the Editor:
I would like to respond to a letter titled “The place visitors want to avoid.”
The writer of this letter wants the people of Wiscasset to “paint out that slogan as it is no longer true.”
He is absolutely right about changing the sign but I think it should be changed to say “The Prettiest Working Village in Maine.”
Isn’t it great to see new businesses in Wiscasset? To me, that means more jobs for the people in our town who have to work for a living to pay their bills. I would like to see as many other businesses be developed on Rt. 1 as land will allow. Even that horrid pile of sticks across the street! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and those sticks are really beautiful. I wonder how many people those sticks employ?
I would like to go one step further. I would like to see some manufacturing businesses come to Wiscasset so we can employ even more people. Anyone have any ideas?
That’s the trouble with our country today. We do not make anything. We used to have a wide variety of businesses in our state. Instead of increasing the time a person can be on unemployment, why don’t we increase the amount of jobs so we don’t have to collect unemployment.
As far as the job being unsupervised that is not true. I supervised it every day, just ask my wife!
