To the Editor:
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Wiscasset Plaza, which includes Lil’ Mart, McDonald’s and First Federal Savings, was held Fri., Aug. 6. Some consider the plaza an eyesore; others a needed increase to our tax base and still others a welcomed convenience.
Watching the ribbon cutting ceremony caused me to wonder about the significance of the event. A book written by Malcolm Gladwell came to mind. Gladwell wrote about a series of insignificant events that occur over time with little effect, until one specific event makes a big difference and becomes the tipping point.
Many people worked together to make it happen and it was built in just three months. Is the Wiscasset Plaza the tipping point for Wiscasset; one that initiates an era of increased prosperity for our town?
