To the Editor:
A recent letter criticized Senator Chris Johnson, D-Somerville, for not doing volunteer work. The writer was badly informed.
Chris and I served on the Somerville school board for several years. He was determined and always made sure that we had thought through every detail. At times, when I just wanted to vote and move on, he would raise another point to think about and keep us from making a mistake.
Then, even after becoming a state senator, Chris moved onto the new district board. He has continued to be an active member, and for several years headed the policy committee. On this board he is again a stickler for being careful, complete, and fair.
And… his work in the computer world was to help companies make accurate and complete reports to their shareholders and customers. It was not the kind of work referred to in that mistaken letter.
Both of our candidates have many good qualities. Let’s concentrate on those and not make silly misleading statements.
