To the editor:
Applause and encores to the Newcastle Local Planning Committee and friends, who organized the This Is Newcastle events.
Thank you for pulling into the discussions so many Newcastle residents. The outcomes are richer for the quality of participation.
The wrap-up presentation, Monday evening, gave us much food for thought. The structuring of neighborhoods with their characteristics in type of housing, setbacks, and additions provides a way for Newcastle committees with zoning, design review, and planning responsibilities to consider applications in terms of the neighborhood criteria the planning process has developed. This will energize change and development.
The projected development for Main Street challenges my comfort with the messiness of our current Main Street, but I welcome the opportunity to entertain the ideas presented and the discussion those ideas will stimulate.
The consideration of creating bike paths and walking paths in the town is also welcomed.
The planning committee and their consultants presented Newcastle residents with a bag of ideas and hopes that we will continue to unwrap for many months.
Thank you planners, organizers, and participants.
