To the editor:
I am writing in support of Wendy Ross, who is running for the Maine House of Representatives in Alna, Wiscasset, Pittston, and Randolph.
I have known and worked with Wendy in various organizations for about 10 years. I invited Wendy to be on the board of Citizens Offering New Alternatives, having met her at St. Giles Episcopal Church in Jefferson, because I was sure she would be a great asset to the then-25-year-old social and environmental justice organization. She was an energetic and very organized event chairperson, bringing many worthwhile programs to the area – including a world-renowned journalist – and then became an effective president. In addition to being organized and smart, she is also very personable – everyone at CONA loved her.
At St. Giles, she and I planned and implemented an education program in which we had various people from the parish speak on their careers and how their religious faith influenced their work. It was very rewarding for everyone. People I know involved with Grandmothers for Reproductive Rights say she has been a passionate and driving force.
I only wish I could vote for her, but I cannot, as I live in a different district. But I am more than glad to encourage everyone in her district, no matter what their political affiliation or non-affiliation, to cast a vote for someone I know will be a thoughtful, caring, and vigorous champion for their needs and concerns.
