To the editor:
This past weekend the town of Waldoboro held its annual Waldoboro Day celebration. We certainly had ideal weather conditions for the event and the venue was perfect for our town and surrounding community members. At the event, the Soule-Shuman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4525 had the opportunity to have a pig roast fundraiser to benefit our post home.
We had a wonderful turnout and we are very grateful to everyone in our community and beyond who showed their support to our veterans. This event could not have happened without the assistance of friends and family members of the VFW. If it were not for the tireless efforts and dedication of these individuals, we could not have made this fundraiser a success. These volunteers worked countless hours assisting the VFW with preparing the cooker, setting up, cooking, serving, and cleaning up after the event.
We were quick to sell out of pork by 2 p.m. Recognizing this, the volunteers unexpectedly went out and shopped for more items to offer to the public into the evening. They did this as a donation in the memory of Army Staff Sgt. William Soule, for whom the post is named. We were able to serve hamburgers and hot dogs into the early evening as the bands were playing.
With much appreciation and thanks to all,
