At our Newcastle office, we field a lot of phone calls in a given week. We don’t keep track in terms of volume but suffice it to say, the phone pretty much rings off the hook all day, everyday, beginning before the office opens at 8 a.m. and continuing until well after we close at 5.
Most of these calls are about news coverage; people who want to get their news in, people who want to keep their news out, and sometimes people who want to complain about news that did or didn’t get into the paper.
This week, Frances Miller called to find out why her notice of a public supper at the Arlington Grange didn’t make it into the paper. (We’re sorry, it appears it didn’t make it past the editor’s desk.)
In the course of conversation, Ms. Miller allowed that she forgave us, given our record for service, compared us more than favorably to a few other newspapers and noted that we are the best newspaper going for “wrapping casseroles.”
That’s right. We keep casseroles warm better than any other newspaper. Ms. Miller credits our size and thickness for our casserole-warming superiority.
“I take a Lincoln County News and wrap up the casserole, and then I put it in an Omaha steak box and it stays warm for up to four hours,” she said.
Now we know a compliment when we hear one and in all seriousness, we are proud to add casserole heat retention to our long list of accomplishments. Of all the things we have ever heard about ourselves, pro, con or other, this is a brand new one for us and frankly, we are delighted.
This is a heretofore unknown service we are pleased to provide our readers.
The Lincoln County News: your No. 1 news source for keeping your casserole warm. We like it. We might put it on the masthead.
