To the editor:
I originally was not for Donald Trump for President. Now I must support him and it’s because of the potential nominees to the Supreme Court.
Our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, were ingenious. All legislators, judges, and the president take a vow to support the Constitution and laws of our nation.
The Congress is duly elected by the people and they are to make the laws. The president executes those laws, which he approves, and the Supreme Court decides if they are constitutional or not. Our nation is broken and our government is not following this part of the U.S. Constitution!
Congress is not following their vows. They have bound themselves to rules and regulations and have set up bureaus that add and subtract to the laws. The laws are now unrecognizable and these bureaus, which are not in the Constitution, are running the country. The president has been making edicts, which are, in effect, laws, and not carrying out the job of executing the laws. The Supreme Court has been making laws which are contrary to the vows to support the Constitution.
An example of the dereliction of the Supreme Court is seen in the following example. When our nation was founded by mostly Godly people, the biblical example of marriage was always between one man and one woman. There was no need to put it in the Constitution. When the question arose about marriage, the Congress made a law (the Defense of Marriage Act) that marriage was between one man and one woman, and the president signed it. President Obama and the Supreme Court defied the Constitution and separation of powers and introduced same-sex marriage.
Another example is Roe v. Wade, in which the Supreme Court called elective abortion legal. We know that a baby at conception has different DNA than its mother and is an entirely different person than its mother or father. Death is determined by when a person’s heart stops beating. A baby’s heartbeat is detected very early to signify life.
Supreme Court judges are appointed for life and are not subject to the people by election. The only way we can get judges that are following their vow to follow the Constitution and the law is to elect a president who will appoint judges who will be true to the Constitution.
Hillary Clinton said she would appoint judges to uphold same-sex marriage and Roe v. Wade. This is carrying on the unlawful policies of Barack Obama. This is the policy of appointing judges for political reasons instead of following the Constitution or rule of law, which they have vowed to do.
Donald Trump has said he will appoint judges who will follow the Constitution.
