It is almost up to us. Soon enough the issues will be wrested from the lips of the spin doctors, the smooth talking professional lobbyists and the all-too-earnest volunteers and the time will come for each of us to make our own decisions.
Next Tuesday as we go to the polls.
We once again have the opportunity to exercise our blessed American right.
We firmly and strongly believe in the democratic process, regardless of the specific subject at hand or any outcome. We believe in the process.
We are sure the negotiators who sealed the deal ending World War I in 1918 didn’t plan it this way, but it is fitting that our annual fall vote comes around Nov. 11, Veterans’ Day or, as Joe Gray eloquently puts it this week, Armistice Day.
Beginning in 1775, generations of Americans have shed blood to protect our right to participate in our own government. For too many other people in too many other countries, real world decisions are made behind closed doors and inflict on the citizens by force rather than persuasion.
We owe it to those who have come before us to participate in this process, and we owe to those who will come after us to continue to protect and cherish this right. Even if one single personal opinion doesn’t amount to much, thousands of opinions still do.
Please vote next Tuesday.
