To the Editor:
RSU 12 will hold its regional school budget meeting on June 4.
Just to compare how other towns are doing:
For 2012 Brunswick school board cut 40 jobs, 15 teachers and temporarily closes Jordan Acres. The mood in the council chambers was somber as board members expressed their sadness at the programming and staffing cuts.
RSU 1 board will vote on a 2.5 percent increase. Their budget proposal cuts three educational technicians and nine teachers and totals $25.6 million dollars for 2012. RSU 1 includes the towns of Arrowsic, West Bath, Woolwich, Phippsburg, and the city of Bath.
RSU 12 is proposing $25.1 million dollars.
RSU 13 will propose a $26 million dollar budget. RSU 13 includes Rockland and South Thomaston. This budget will eliminate scores of positions and result in a tax hike.
MSAD 75 will propose a $34 million dollar budget that will be a 1.65 percent reduction and result in numerous cuts and the reduction of eight teaching positions.
Windham-Raymond proposed school budget is up 3.1 percent and will result in cutting two teachers and six staff.
RSU 10 is looking at a nine percent increase. RSU 10 will be cutting staff as well as other positions.
How does RSU 12 compare? Over 100 schools/school units have a lower cost per student than RSU 12?
