To the Editor:
Now that Tom Allen will no longer be our Representative to the U.S. House of Representatives, we must elect someone to replace him who shares his same values and concerns for Maine and the Nation.
Chellie Pingree is that person.
Like Tom, she is opposed to the unjust war in Iraq and will work to get the troops out of Iraq as quickly as possible and redirect the billions spent on this unjust war to domestic programs and issues.
Such programs include helping people get through this financial/economic mess we presently face, developing energy systems that are alternatives to our reliance on fossil fuels, improving our educational system by restoring funding to unfunded mandates and eliminating No Child Left Behind and letting school systems develop their own testing programs; providing affordable health care for everyone, improving veterans’ programs and benefits, voting against any effort to privatize Social Security, improving on the Medicare drug program, giving tax breaks to those who really need them, the low and middle class tax payers; and supporting pro-choice.
She has been a small businessperson, a leader in the State Senate and the President of a large non-profit corporation (Common Cause). She will work on behalf of the small and medium sized businesses and low and moderate income people and families.
She is the perfect replacement for Tom Allen. On Nov. 4 (or before), please vote for Chellie Pingree for US House of Representatives.
