To the Editor:
Want to know where all the decent jobs went? Go down to the store and read the “Made In _____” labels. Want to know how to get them back?
Publish a list of tariffs to be levied on imports and watch the merchants scurry around for U.S. made products to fill the pipeline.
Are there problems? Sure. International trade dislocations for one. Also, prices will rise.
What will that mean?
People like me will not be able to afford all the trinkets we have come to expect, but at the same time, there will be many on the bottom of the pile who will have decent jobs, decent incomes, and who will be able to pay their own way.
Isn’t that what we want?
