To the Editor:
Imagine the excitement of earning the title of Little League World Series Champions. We recently returned to Maine from a trip to Williamsport, Penn. to see who would take home the top prize in youth baseball. All the excitement brought back wonderful memories of my son’s own recent Lincoln Little League Championship game where his team, The Wheels, finished an undefeated perfect season and won it all.
I have thought a lot about the make-up of the International Little League World Series Champions and our local champs and several things stand out. Our boys play on the exact same size field. Our boys can hit a home run just as far as the boys in the World Series. I saw the same passion and determination at Pemaquid Field as I did at Howard Lamade Stadium in Williamsport.
I saw in all the little leaguers in the stands during the series, the same anticipation and drive to be awesome and make that big play. I see it in the eyes of the farm team players I have coached and now the players of Lincoln Little League. They want to hit home runs like David Ortiz and make big plays like Dustin Pedroia and be the next ace pitcher on the scene.
Let’s not forget, not too many years ago these major league players were learning and developing and dreaming in Little League.
The big difference is the Little League organization that is behind these players. That is why I am writing this letter. I am hoping that a few people will read this letter and decide that they want to help make dreams come true. I am calling out to those who love baseball, young and old, for help with running our local Lincoln Little League.
There were over 500 volunteers at the Little League World Series championship game from all over the USA. We need help in a big way, too!
If you used to play baseball, or maybe you coached, or maybe you just love baseball, we need your help. Are you looking for something to do that is rewarding and makes a difference in our young people? We need your help making dreams come true. We need coaches and we need leaders to serve on our board, filling many different roles like player agent, safety officer, concessions, treasurer, vice presidents, etc.
The opportunity is great and rewarding, and with a little help from many people we can positively impact our community and make next season the best one yet. We are working hard to develop major league young people.
Will you join us? Lastly, thank you to all who currently serve and to those who have given decades to our Little League, You will be missed. If you want to be a part of a team that helps kids dream come true call me at 837-9703.
