To the Editor:
According to Maine Public Radio, our distinguished legislature recently spent an hour plus debating the merits of making the Whoopie pie the state’s official dessert. Do they really have nothing better to do?
That complaint aside, it’s a poor choice. Do we really want this lard-filled excess as a state symbol? Perhaps it’s befitting where excess of adipose is rampant, but it wasn’t even invented here. Pennsylvania Amish get that distinction.
Personally I prefer a suggested alternative, the wild blueberry (not the pie, just the berry). Beleaguer your local representative with your opinion.
