To the Editor:
On Jan. 31, 70 adults and kids spent the afternoon sledding, snow shoeing and making snowmen and s’mores to raise much-needed funds for fuel assistance. WINTERACT was a great success, as the Boothbay Interact Club, the high school equivalent of Rotary, raised over $600.
The idea to host a family fun day was the brain child of The Interact Club, an ambitious group of high school students who have each given up a portion of one of their most valuable possessions- their free time- to engage in community service.
Interact asked for donations from individuals and businesses to help keep people warm this winter. The money will be donated to Boothbay Region Community Resources Fuel Fund, and according to Kit Sherrill, the fund has helped between 50 and 60 families that can conservatively translate to over 150 people living in our community.
The Boothbay Interact Club would like to thank all the volunteers and the local businesses who supported this effort for their generosity in spite of these difficult economic times.
Lastly, we would like to thank all those who came out to the event, bought food, competed in the race, built a snowman, and just plain had fun W-interacting with us.
