Once again, a big, out-of-town media organization has swooped into Lincoln County, spent a few hours here, jetted away, and published an article with wildly inaccurate conclusions and assumptions about our home.
These big-city operations and their slick, suit-wearing “journalists” bring their biases and elitist attitudes to town and look only far enough to confirm their prejudices.
In fact, we will bet they only ate one slice of pie.
The offender this time is People magazine, which on Friday, in a collaboration with the food website Eater, published a guide to “The Best Pie in Every State and Washington, D.C.”
Its selection for Maine: the four-berry pie at Moody’s Diner in Waldoboro.
The four-berry pie “at this roadside diner on Route 1 between Portland and Arcadia (Ha!) National Park is bursting with the state’s finest blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries,” states the glossy, celebrity-stalking publication.
Now, we do not object to the selection of Moody’s Diner and, in fact, find Moody’s four-berry pie delicious, but the best pie in Maine it is not.
All reasonable people will agree that Moody’s peanut butter cream pie is far superior!
We suspect People’s selection has more to do with an urban pro-fruit agenda than an objective and peer-reviewed analysis of each pie variety in our fair state.
