Contrary to the perception of Lincoln County as a quiet place where nothing much happens, our staff can barely keep up with all the news.
Sure, different people have different ideas about what constitutes news.
The front-page article about the Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit budget is one you’re not likely to read anywhere else. Even readers outside the district will likely find it of little interest, but it’s greatly important to anyone who pays property taxes or sends their children to school in Alna, Somerville, Westport Island, and Whitefield.
That’s why we spend the time and resources to bring you this article. It’s news you can’t find anywhere else, and that essentially defines our mission — to bring you the news that’s important to you, to your community, to your bottom line, that you can’t find in any other newspaper or on any radio station, TV station, website, etc.
We keep busy at it. We have six full-time-plus reporters and editors and a host of part-timers and volunteer correspondents working to bring you the news, day and night, weekday or weekend. As Bill Belichick would say: “No days off!”
We all keep quite busy, but we still want to hear from you, our readers, about what you think we should be covering.
Most of our readers know we try to report on every new business that opens in our coverage area. Some escape our notice, particularly those without a storefront or some other conspicuous public presence.
But you don’t have to open an amusement park or a spaceship factory to merit an article in The Lincoln County News.
We want to talk to you if you’re a craftsman, contractor, landscaper, painter, or the proprietor of a roadside lemonade stand. Let us know what you’re up to and we’ll pass it on to our thousands of readers.
And we want tips about more than new businesses.
Some of our favorite articles, in The Lincoln County News or elsewhere, are those about local characters — people who might not be the wealthiest or most powerful members of their communities, but who have unique personalities and stories, or who make a unique contribution in whatever they do. If you know someone like this, tell us about them.
Whatever it is, if you think it’s news, tell us about it. The best way to do so is with an email to info@lcnme.com. You can also call 563-3171 and ask for the editor, or mail a note to P.O. Box 36, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Please note that while we will always respond in a timely manner, we cannot always immediately assign a reporter.
We look forward to hearing from you.
