This is my final column of triathlon training tips!
I hope you have enjoyed my tips and have been having fun training.
As far as training this week, I would get out there, but don’t go as far as you have been. Take Thursday off and do a small amount of training Friday, enough to break a sweat.
The triathlon is Sunday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. Be sure to get lots of sleep the night before. Hydrate and have a good meal. Lay out all your race-day equipment the night before. Eat a familiar and easily digestible meal for breakfast and hydrate.
If you have some distance to drive, be sure to allow for possible traffic. I would get to the race course at least 45 minutes prior to the start. You will be able to select where you want your transition area to be. Organize your gear in the order you will be using it. Get into the water and take a few strokes.
Make sure you are present for the pre-race talk. This usually takes place 10-15 minutes before the start. This is where the race director will give you important information about the race. There will be more than one wave of swimmers. The race director will tell you about the course and areas to be aware of. You are required to walk your bike in the transition areas. Only participants are allowed in the transition areas during the race.
Just before the start, take a moment to breathe. Have confidence in your training and have fun!
