As the November election approaches, one of our top priorities is to give our readers the information they need to decide who to vote for on Election Day.
Our reporters meet one-on-one with every local candidate for county office, district attorney, or Legislature, and pass on what they say. No spin, no agenda. Our only goal is to give you relevant information with which you can make your own decisions.
Which candidate shares my values?
Which candidate do I think will best address the issues I care about?
These are the questions we ask ourselves when we go to the polls.
We don’t think a D or R answers these questions, and we certainly don’t think deceptive advertising by parties and political action committees answers these questions.
The other way we help our readers answer these questions is with the candidates forums we host every election cycle.
This is your opportunity to hear from the candidates firsthand, to meet them if you haven’t already, and to ask them questions.
We have revamped the forums this year to accomplish two goals: to make time for more questions and to give the audience more opportunity for direct participation.
We will hold three forums this year, instead of two, which will reduce the number of candidates at each forum and allow time for more questions.
Secondly, we will encourage audience questions throughout the forums, alternating with the moderator’s questions, instead of only allowing audience questions at the end of the evening.
All 22 opposed candidates have agreed to participate. We hope you will join us, and them.
The schedule for this year’s forums follows. Each forum will run from 6-7:30 p.m. More details will appear in future editions of The Lincoln County News.
