A Boothbay woman faces charges of burglary and theft in connection with the burglary of a Southport home, and police are investigating the woman’s connection with other possible thefts.
Eva Mae Todd, 48, of Boothbay, allegedly burglarized a home on Cape Newagen Road and stole clothes, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office press release.
The resident of the home found the woman nearby wearing some of the clothes from the house and holding two bags of clothes.
“When confronted, Ms. Todd got into her car, a green 1999 Saab convertible, which was parked nearby, and attempted to flee,” according to the press release. “When Ms. Todd was blocked in by another vehicle, she drove over some rocks and across a lawn to flee the area.”
The Boothbay Harbor Police Department stopped the vehicle. LCSO Detective Scott Hayden arrested Todd on Tuesday, May 24. Todd was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and later released on bail. Her car was towed and impounded.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for Todd’s vehicle and found a purse belonging to a Vassalboro woman. The Maine State Police had been investigating the theft of the purse in April. “Detectives are also investigating the possibility of another theft that may have taken place in Bowdoin,” according to the press release.
The investigation is ongoing and police expect more charges. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information about the investigation to call Hayden at 882-7332.
