Detectives from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Bristol man Tuesday, Dec. 22 for allegedly embezzling more than $150,000 from two area businesses.
Joseph Corson, 51, of Bristol, was charged with Class B theft after an investigation into the embezzlement of funds from two Bristol businesses.
Corson has worked as a bookkeeper since 2001 for Ideal Septic and MacPhee Enterprises. The two businesses are owned by the same individual.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, it appears more than $150,000 was stolen from the businesses over the past 10 years. Corson is alleged to have been overpaying himself regularly and making numerous unauthorized purchases with the company credit card.
The owner of the businesses noticed discrepancies in the bookkeeping and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
Corson was arrested at the business and transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. He has been released on $25,000 unsecured bail. Further charges are possible as the investigation continues according to the press release.
