A former Damariscotta man serving a 3 1/2-year sentence for sex crimes against four young girls has died, according to the Maine Department of Corrections.
Ronald J. Brann, 66, died at about 4 a.m., Tuesday, May 17 at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, according to a press release from the Department of Corrections. He had been serving his sentence at the Mountain View facility in Charleston.
The Maine State Police and the medical examiner are reviewing the death in accordance with department policy and Maine Attorney General’s Office protocols, according to the release.
Brann pleaded guilty to four counts of class B unlawful sexual contact at the Lincoln County Courthouse on Monday, Jan. 11, according to court documents. Four counts of class D unlawful sexual touching were dismissed.
He was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison and 15 years of probation.
Brann committed the crimes against four girls under the age of 12 in Damariscotta and Waldoboro from June 2011 to March 2015, according to court documents.
Brann was ill at the time of his sentencing.
The Department of Corrections converted the former Mountain View Youth Development Center into an adult facility last summer, according to the Bangor Daily News. At the time, the department was considering turning the center “into a site for inmates who are elderly or need complex and extensive medical treatments.”
