Tracie A. Bowman
A Waldoboro man whose case was scheduled for jury selection Thursday, April 7 instead pleaded guilty to a felony sex crime in a last-minute deal.
Tracie A. Bowman, 42, pleaded guilty to a single count of class C unlawful sexual contact as part of a deferred-disposition agreement. He committed the crime in 2003, according to court documents. The victim was a 6-year-old girl.
The girl reported the crime to police in 2012, according to court documents. Bowman was arrested Nov. 11, 2015.
If Bowman abides by certain conditions for a year, the court will dismiss the class C charge and Bowman will instead plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of class D unlawful sexual contact, according to the agreement.
He would receive a sentence of 364 days in custody with all but 21 days suspended, plus a year of probation.
If Bowman violates any condition of the agreement, he could receive up to five years in prison – the maximum sentence for a class C crime.
The agreement prohibits contact with the victim, prohibits unsupervised contact with any child under 18 except for incidental contact in public, and requires Bowman to obtain a sex-offender evaluation and complete counseling.
Bowman is scheduled to appear at the Lincoln County Courthouse at 1 p.m., April 10, 2017.
Bowman is free on personal-recognizance bail, which means a promise to appear.
Assistant District Attorney Katie Hollstrom represented the state. Waldoboro attorney Philip S. Cohen represented Bowman. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Terry Michaud was the investigating officer.
