A Wiscasset man is facing several charges after allegedly punching a police officer in the ribs and running away following a traffic stop on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
Michael A. Andretta, 24, was arrested Monday, Feb. 8 and charged with assault on a police officer, a class C felony; refusing to submit to arrest or detention, a class D misdemeanor; and operating after suspension, failure to provide correct name, address, and date of birth, and violating conditions of release, all class E misdemeanors.
Reserve Officer Ben Kolko stopped Andretta at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 2 for allegedly running a stop sign in the vicinity of Old Bath Road, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said. Andretta allegedly refused to give his correct name, Cline said.
Kolko attempted to take Andretta into custody pending his proper identification, he said. Andretta allegedly punched Kolko in the ribs and ran away, Cline said. The passenger in the car, Jyllian A. York, 18, of Wiscasset, was arrested on a charge of minor consuming alcohol.
Andretta voluntarily came into the police station Monday, Feb. 8 and was taken into custody without incident, Cline said. He is currently being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Feb. 9.
