The Bath Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate a Bath man who allegedly assaulted another man with a hammer in Bath on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Investigators believe the man might be in the Dresden or Augusta areas.
Jason Mackenzie, 38, of Bath, faces a charge of class B aggravated assault in connection with the incident.
Bath Police officers responded to 98 Union St. for a report of a man who had been assaulted with a hammer early Aug. 24.
Mackenzie and the victim, a 37-year-old man from Bowdoin, were arguing inside the building, according to a press release from the police department. The two men went outside, where Mackenzie picked up a hammer and struck the victim several times in the facial area, according to the victim and witnesses.
Investigators located the hammer outside 98 Union St., according to the press release. The victim and witnesses told the police Mackenzie fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.
The victim had serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his facial area, according to the press release. Emergency medical technicians were called to the scene to treat him for his injuries. He was later brought to Mid Coast Hospital, in Brunswick, by his friends for further treatment. He has since been released.
There is an active arrest warrant for Mackenzie.
