The Wiscasset Police Department is warning parents after two juveniles overdosed Saturday, Oct. 27 on substances they received through the mail.
The Wiscasset Ambulance Service took the juveniles to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for treatment. As of Tuesday, Oct. 30, the police department did not know whether or when they had been released.
The juveniles “consumed several different types of substances” that they “obtained through the mail,” according to a statement from the police department. The department did not identify the substances.
The department encourages parents to watch what their children receive through the mail and to contact the department for assistance if their children receive a package from an unknown address.
“We would also like to remind the public that some substances/drugs are activated in the human body, and others simply by touch,” the department said in a statement. “Caution should be used to avoid accidental exposure and overdose.”
The department asks anyone with information about the ongoing investigation to call the station at 882-8202.
