A Camden man faces several criminal charges after allegedly trafficking cocaine and driving 75 mph through the 35-mph zone in downtown Wiscasset while under the influence of drugs.
Jason Taylor, 42, was driving north on Bath Road, entering the village, at about 11:15 p.m., Sunday, April 28, according to the Wiscasset Police Department.
Officer Jonathan Barnes stopped Taylor’s vehicle and, after an investigation, arrested him on charges of criminal speed, operating under the influence of drugs, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs.
Wiscasset Police Chief Larry Hesseltine did not specify what drug or drugs Taylor was under the influence of. A drug recognition expert from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
Hesseltine said Taylor resisted being handcuffed at first, but there “wasn’t a drawn-out fight.”
Taylor was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. He is scheduled for arraignment at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Wiscasset on May 30.
In addition to the drug recognition expert from Sagadahoc County, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
