Maine Oyster, Inc. has applied for a limited-purpose (experimental) aquaculture lease to grow American/Eastern oysters using bottom culture techniques on a 1.55-acre site located east of Lehman Island, Upper Sheepscot River, Newcastle, Maine. This lease would replace current standard lease SHE LE2. Other compatible uses of the area would be permitted. The application is posted on the DMR website at www.maine.gov/dmr/aquaculture, under “Pending Aquaculture Lease Applications.”
The Commissioner announces a public comment period for this application.
A public hearing is required only if requested in writing by five (5) or more interested persons prior to the comment deadline.
