In June 2017, the Boothbay School Department received its A.H.E.R.A. 6-month surveillance for the presence of asbestos containing materials. This inspection was conducted in accordance with the requirements of the EPA Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), 40 CFR Part 763. This information, with a hazard assessment developed by an accredited management planner, is included in the Asbestos Management Plan for the school.
The EPA requires re-inspections of the asbestos materials every three years and a survey of the condition every six months. An accredited management planner reviewed the results of the surveys and recommended, if any, actions that should be taken to safely manage asbestos in your buildings.
This asbestos Management Plan is available for inspection at the facilities manager’s office. Everyone is welcome to view these at anytime during normal school hours.
