Bristol Selectmen are planning to fill two vacant positions on the Town’s Budget Committee, to serve for a three-year term ending with the annual Town Meeting in 2020. The Selectmen are seeking expressions of interest from residents to volunteer for these unpaid positions.
The Budget Committee normally meets three times in February each year to make recommendations on budgetary articles on the Town’s annual warrant. It may also meet on other occasions if Special Town Meetings have budgetary articles, or if the Selectmen seek its counsel on financial matters.
The Committee has an advisory role only, but its recommendations carry considerable weight at Town meetings. In appointing members to the Committee, Selectmen try to balance different sections of the town, and to bring a range of experience to the Committee.
