Five Town CSD Adult and Community Education has a wide range of classes beginning in the upcoming weeks. There are many free classes available.
Available classes include:
Integrated Education and Training CNA Certification:
Are you interested in beginning a career in health care? Are you looking to obtain a high school equivalency diploma? Are you housing-insecure? Do you struggle with math and reading? Are you unemployed, or employed but earn near the minimum wage? If you answered yes to at least two of these questions, you may qualify for this unique program. Through a collaboration of area providers, local adults may be eligible for this free educational offering. The anticipated program start date is Monday, Feb. 25.
Medicare 101:
Do you have questions about Medicare? Join Anna Moorman and Jo-Ann Neal for this informational seminar. They will answer your questions, including what Medicare does and does not cover, when to enroll, the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare supplement plans, and which plan is best for you. Moorman and Neal will be available for a question-and-answer session following the presentation. This free one-night class is available on Feb. 25 from 4:30-6 p.m. or April 22 from 5:30-7 p.m.
Adult-ed tutor information session:
Do you have a desire to give back to your community with the gift of education? Five Town CSD Adult and Community Education is in need of volunteers to assist with tutoring for students in its various programs. Even if it is simply one hour per week, you can make a difference in someone’s life. This free class is taught by Nancy Nickerson, the tutor for HiSET, College Transitions, and ESL, and is available Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 10-11 a.m. or Tuesday, March 5 from 6-7 p.m.
Bus driver information session:
Are you looking for a part-time job? Do you need health insurance? Do you like working with children? Do you like to drive? Have you ever wondered what it takes to become a bus driver? There will be a one-hour session to introduce you to the training and requirements necessary for the position of school bus driver. This free class is taught by Julie Waters, the transportation director for MSAD 28 in Camden and Five Town CSD in Rockport. Drop in any time on Wednesday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at the superintendent’s office on Lions Lane, off Knowlton Street, in downtown Camden.
New Books, New Readers:
New Books, New Readers is a new book club brought to local communities through a collaboration with the Maine Humanities Council. Its goal is to encourage reluctant adult readers to find the joy in reading. New Books, New Readers uses books at various accessible reading levels to open the world of books and ideas. Participants learn to love reading by engaging in facilitated discussions that relate a book’s themes to their own lives. Readers are given a copy of every book in the series to keep and are encouraged to share their enjoyment with family and friends. The book club meets the last Tuesday of the month through May, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 6-7:30 pm. It is free, but registration is required.
