Former Lincoln County resident Mia Bergman was recently recognized by Bridgton Academy for her dedicated work with the student body. Bergman, who grew up in Camden and Damariscotta, is in her first year at the college prep school where she works as an athletic trainer, dorm parent, and academic advisor.
The Andrew F. Staub ’04 Faculty Professional Development Award is given to a faculty member who embodies the mission of Bridgton Academy, including, but not limited to, the mastering of his or her discipline, fostering and developing academic courage in his or her students, and a genuine concern for the well-being of the young men entrusted to his or her care. The winners are selected from a pool of student-nominated candidates.
Bergman credited the relationships she developed with the students for the honor. She made a point of keeping her office open and making herself available whenever students needed or wanted to talk.
“Relationship building was huge this year,” she said. “Every day it was my goal to wake up and be there for the kids. Obviously, I’m there to treat their injuries but more so, it’s to be there for them as a person.”
Bridgton Academy offers the nation’s leading college-prep postgraduate program, educating young men exclusively in the year between high school and college. For more information about Bridgton Academy, visit bridgtonacademy.org.
