Tom Abello, 40, of Edgecomb, won the Jefferson 5K, sponsored by Troop 216 Boy Scouts. Abello beat out Will Janakis by 33 seconds. Roxanne Stepnowski, 41, of Glastonbury, Conn., was the first female finisher and took third overall.
The first finisher from Jefferson was Shawn St. Cyr, who placed fifth overall. The first female finisher from Jefferson was Emma Allen.
“Thanks to everyone who came out to support the Boy Scout Troop 216 of Jefferson on Saturday morning for the 16th Annual Community Day 5K Race,” race organizer Katrina Guptill said. “Unfortunately without the support of a Jefferson Community Day celebration of any kind this year our numbers were down but we had a great time and some really terrific runners showed up.”
The race was sponsored by Black Duck Realty, NC Hunt, Renys, Lincoln County Publishing, Orff Realty, and The First, NETCo.

15 & Under: male Cameron Leach, female Emma Allen.
16-19: female Kelly Martin.
20-29: male Will Janakis, female Nikki Leeman.
30-39: male Darren Winchenbach, female Laurie Elsemore.
40-49: male Tom Abello, female Roxanne Stepnowski.
50-59: male Scott Leeman, female Therese Salewski.
60 and over: female Ellen Spring.
