Adam St. Cyr wrestled in the 2015 Asics/USAW Kids Greco and Freestyle Nationals on July 1 and 2, held at the Woodside Wisconsin Dells Center in Dells, Wis.
He qualified for the tournament in May by placing first in both styles at the North East Regional tournament held in East Stroudsburg, Penn.
St. Cyr was named an All- American at the tournament. In order to achieve All-American status, a wrestler must place at least eighth in the national
tournaments.
Adam placed sixth in the Greco tournament and seventh in the freestyle tournament.
This is the first time Maine has been represented on the national stage in youth wrestling, according to his father, Shawn St. Cyr. It is also Adam’s first season competing in these two styles of wrestling.
He has wrestled folk style for four years and added freestyle and Greco in April when he started working out with the Maine Trappers.
In both tournaments, St. Cyr competed against wrestlers from Iowa, Wyoming, Kentucky, Oregon, Minnesota, Illinois, Washington, and Indiana.
In Greco, St. Cyr beat Peyton Logan (Kentucky) and lost twice to Wyatt Lewis (Oregon).
In freestyle, Adam beat Peyton Logan (Kentucky) and Tyler Wenzel (Wyoming) and lost to Blake Frost (Iowa) and Landen Haines (Indiana).
Adam is the son of Jenn and Shawn St. Cyr, of Jefferson.
