Wiscasset High School Alumni men’s basketball team defeated the Redskins 62-61 in overtime Saturday night in a fun filled match-up.
Jason Dighton sank two foul shots with 1:03 to go in regulation to tie the game at 56-56 and force overtime. Wiscasset twice took the lead in OT on a Nick Hinkley shot, and again on a Josh Hopkins 3-pointer. Conrad Griffin hit a pair at the line to pull the Alumni within one, then scored the game winner on a Jason Dighton steal.
The Alumni led 15-13 at the quarter, Wiscasset 34-33 at the half and the Alumni 47-45 at the end of three. There were three sets of brothers competing against each other, Matt and Nick Hinkley, Conrad and Cody Griffin, and Curtis and Mitchell DeCosta.
Scoring for the Alumni were Curtis DeCosta 17 (5R), Griffin 12 (5R,3S), Ben Stoodley 10 (8R), Matt McRae 9, Jason Dighton 5 (6R), Gerard Murphy 4, Ben Matzell 2, Joe Gallant 2 (5R) and JT Haggett 1. Also playing for the Alumni were Scott James, Matt Hinkley, Andrew Hatt, Derek Jones and Adam St.Jean.
Scoring for Wiscasset were Jason Dennison 21 (13R,4S), Nick Hinkley 15 (4R,2S,1B), Cody Griffin 9 (5R), Josh Hopkins 5 (5R,1B,2S), Sumner Averill 3 (4R), Jim Davis 2, Tyler Sonia 2, Zach Sonia 2 (3R,2B,1S), Mitchell Decosta 1 and Alex Slack 1 (4R).
