Grace Bibber, of Damariscotta and a 2011 graduate of Lincoln Academy, earned a varsity letter in field hockey at Springfield College last fall.
Bibber was one of two freshmen goalkeepers on a rebuilding team. She played JV for three games, when she got the call to move up to the varsity level. She earned a 1-0 shutout in her varsity debut, which earned her a permanent starting spot on varsity. Bibber started in seven games.
“I had no idea what to expect,” Bibber said of playing college ball. “It is a rebuilding year” for Springfield. “We have a really young team” under coach Melissa Sharp. “It was the greatest thing. It was a great experience,” Bibber said.
Springfield went 4-3 in their conference, and 4-12 overall. They earned a playoff berth, where Bibber earned a shutout in the quarterfinals to advance the Pride to the semifinals.
Bibber is majoring in physical education. She plans on playing spring field hockey, and looks forward to playing next season.
