Jason Begonia, 36, of Walpole, beat out Jian Giglia, 21, of Damariscotta, for first place in the Alvin Sproul Samoset 10K, held in Bristol on Sunday.
Paul Leeman, 37, of Round Pond, was the first Bristol finisher. Leah Frost, 30, of Round Pond, was the first female finisher and placed fifth overall out of a field of 101 runners.
The annual race, a popular Olde Bristol Days event, raises funds for the Bristol Fire & Rescue Departments. It is named for Alvin Sproul, who was the race director for 10 years. Before that he co-directed the Samoset 10K and Bristol Four-Miler with Alan Reilly.
