The Blueberry Cove 13.1 is accepting registrations for the third annual race, set for Aug. 25, 2013.
This picturesque half marathon wends its way from Blueberry Cove Camp in Tenants Harbor, then along the shores of the St. George River and Penobscot Bay, including Marshall Point Light House, Drift Inn Beach and Port Clyde village.
The race benefits Blueberry Cove and Tanglewood camps, which offer children from Maine and elsewhere an affordable learning experience in the outdoors. The camps encourage curiosity, creativity, cooperation and exploring the natural world.
This year, the field of runners and walkers has been expanded from 125 to 200 participants. This year’s race was fully subscribed in three months. All participants will receive a porcelain medallion created by Camden potter Peter Jones, and winners receive pottery mugs made by former Blueberry Cove owner and director Ann Goldsmith.
The nonprofit camps are now operated through the University of Maine.
All participants also receive a blueberry-themed brunch after the race, and runners and their guests are invited to a pre-race dinner on Aug. 24, with music by the Alehouse String Band. Overnight cabins are available at the camp.
