Sixth seed Boothbay boys basketball team upset third seed Waynflete 65-64 on Mon. Feb. 19 in a South Class C quarter-final match-up. The Seahawks trailed much of the game, 20-12 at the quarter, 42-29 at the half and 59-48 at the end of three. Boothbay battled back to take their first lead on a Kyle Ames three pointer with a little over a minute to play in the fourth. Hunter Crocker drove inside with 16 seconds remaining to score the winning hoop for Boothbay. With under five seconds to play, the Flyers inbounded the ball under their own basket, but Ames stole the pass to seal the win.
Boothbay was led by Steve Reny 21 (9/10 at foul line), Ames 18 (5-3’s), and H. Crocker 17 (3-3’s). Waynflete was led by Askar Houssen 12 and Diraige Dahia 11.
